High and Medium resolution products

Applications
- Medium resolution images (10 to 30 metres) are used for:
  • making a general land use classification,
  • locating and mapping the different types of urban habitations, road infrastructures, major urban constructions, airports,
  • locating and distinguishing between forest cover and farming land.

Products
-
Landsat
- Since 1972 the Landsat satellites have been providing continuous imagery, taken from a perpendicular viewing angle, of great spectral variety. They have made a systematic archive showing the evolutions of our planet on a regional scale.

Coverage: 85 x 170 km

Resolution:
    30 m in multispectral mode (6 bands)
    60 m in thermal infrared
    15 m in panchromatic with Landsat 7

IRS
- Since 1995, the IRS satellites have been acquiring images with different sensors:
  • Pan: panchromatic: resolution of 5.8 m for a swath of 70 km
  • LISS-3: 4-band multispectral: 23 m (except for SWIR at 70 m) for a swath of 140 km
  • WiFS: wide angle, 2 bands: resolution of 188 m for a swath of 810 km

ALOS
-

Launched in 2006, the ALOS scientific Japanese mission is the new comer in the family of the Medium Resolution range satellites.
3 instruments are available on board:

  • PRISM : Panchromatic Remote-sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping
  • AVNIR-2 : Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer (2nd generation)
  • PALSAR : the Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar
