FAQ
SPOT Thema
Q1 - Do I have to be an expert in satellite image processing to use SPOT Thema? No knowledge of satellite image processing methods is needed to use SPOT Thema. Imagery is pre-processed by the specialists who generate the vector database. SPOT Thema is therefore well suited to GIS users and planning or land use management officers. |
Q2 - What software supports SPOT Thema? SPOT Thema is available in two ESRI formats: Shape (ArcView 3.0) and Export (ARC/INFO 7) and two MapInfo formats: table and MIF/MID. It thus offers excellent compatibility with the main geographic information systems on the market (including Geoconcept). |
Q3 - How can I integrate SPOT Thema with other layers of information? SPOT Thema is ready for immediate integration in your GIS. You define the standard projection you require, say, Lambert or Lambert II extended, when ordering the product. So SPOT Thema integrates seamlessly with your other data layers, provided of course they are of sufficient quality. |
Q4 - Is SPOT Thema compatible with Corine Land Cover land use layers? SPOT Thema is based on a nomenclature oriented towards land use management, so it offers much the same features as Corine Land Cover. This close compliance with European standards meets users' needs in terms of thematic detail and the ability to compare features in imagery. |
Q5 - How can I display a backdrop with SPOT Thema? Like any georeferenced vector layer in a GIS, SPOT Thema can be overlaid on a backdrop such as an IGN SCAN25 scanned basemap (or other type of basemap) or Spot imagery, provided the backdrop will display in the same map projection as the SPOT Thema product. SPOT Thema's geometric accuracy also means you can overlay other layers of information derived from national databases such as IGN's BD Carto. |
